 Assignment 4 Figure 3d

Tracktown women athletes and the World Championship Games 2022.

They pushed forward as much as the seemed to fly onto the next stride.

They had their chin up as the reached forward to make that connection to the next relay runner.

One relay runners reached to give the baton to the next runner.

Their hair in pony tails and braids flew behind them.

By now I was remembering the athletic women in the UO competetive events and the World Championships games.

It obviously began to look like a figure.

Dropped in basic bone and muscle groups as per Elliot Mallon technique, although I don't really know atanomy.

I was looking for technique in just how to even begin and found this  by Elliot Mallon.

I used online resources to determine scale and size.

Inspired by the Eagle Rock formation at Grand Canyon West of the Hualapai People.

I thought I would make a figure our of stone, but it proved much too hard as I started to play with the clay.

Assignment 2  SIZE  - Redwood Tree

Seven inch tall Redwood Tree Model.
______

Shape of trunk of Redwood.
______

Tiny human of copper wire loops.
______

Reference material

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-73733-6

"Large trees are disproportionately important in terms of their above ground biomass (AGB) and carbon storage, as well as their wider impact on ecosystem structure. They are also very hard to measure and so tend to be underrepresented in measurements and models of AGB. We show the first detailed 3D terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) estimates of the volume and AGB of large coastal redwood Sequoia sempervirens trees from three sites in Northern California, representing some of the highest biomass ecosystems on Earth. "

Top view on rolling ground.
______

Detail of crushed tinfoil texture - some branches are too blurry to render the texture.
______

Texture of needles and branches - crushed tinfoil under masking tape.
______

Cover trunk in masking tape and press into the crushed wire.
Add structural wire for branches.
______

Detail of crushed picture hanging woven wire to achieve bark texture.
______

Scale of bark texture on real Redwood.
______

Install branch stubs before adding texture.
______

Sheathing of masking tape for base to adhere bark.
______

Size conversion: Redwood compared to human.
______

Cut crushed picture hanging wire for bark texture.
______

Sample trials of different textures and shapes for bark and branches.
______

Taped base for stability
______

Narrow tip wired for alignment.
______

Tape added for compression aspect and circles of cardboard to shape trunk.
______

Structure for trunk - annealed rebar wire for tension aspect
______

Reference material:

Influences leading to my artistic expression.

Geomancy work of Marko Pogacnik is beautiful in his simplicity of stone sculpture he creates and places as lithopuncture on the Earth. His talented daughters draw very sparse line drawings that express the energies of the unseen world - an example is on his book cover in the center of the lake.

The Nautilus represent the sacred geometry and is a perfect representation of the Fibonacci ratios seen throughout nature.
I have been intrigued by circles for a long time, as noted by this painting I did decades ago. This represents the energy exchange and two or more people communicate.

The Bagua is an ancient system for organizing energies and nature into a cohesive representation of  influences that affect people and spaces. It is based on the I Ching.

Marko Pocagnik writes about the holon of energy the cycles down into the earth and back up above ground then down again - continuously. This is my model to demonstrate that energy in action, based on two Slinkys on cardboard, which represents the ground.

My interest in fiber arts leads me to explore how to make circles. These are samples. The white, grey and black is my self-teaching weaving circles from book from "The Chilkat Weaving Dancing Blanket"
by Cheryl Samuel.

______________________

Nature has many examples of the Fibonacci Ratio.

Even the Fibonacci ratio can be used in weaving. This is my sample for a scarf I wove using the Fibonacci ratio.

So, to put this all together, I look to nature for understanding the elements of earth, air, fire, water and wood. For instance, this sunset is fire - but also light - illumination.

And this fire is warm, but could also be danger. It is amorphous constantly changing shape.

These Redwoods are, well, wood, but they are also ancient, and giant, and gather water from the air and mist and drink light from the fiery sun and live for hundreds of years... They are structured forms, rigid trunks with flexible branches, with figured bark. They are HUGE.

This is water, essential to life but could be dangerous or nurturing liquid, solid (ice) or misty (vapor) like that which the Redwoods drink from the air. Water can be a still lake (vessel) to float
on and bathe in for nurturing. Water is dynamic (liquid wave, vapor clouds) or still/solid (solid ice  or still lake with mirror reflections)  How do these elements influence us? How do we influence them?

The Yin Yang is a dynamic duo, like two atoms dancing around each other. This is my simple example that the yin-yang is a 3d dynamic energy core in all of us and everything. Yin Yang is often used in the center of the Bagua, but is not well understood.
